Personal Jet Pack - BIOSC

In today’s world, technology has reached levels that could not have even been imagined years ago. This article looks back at several inventions that have occurred with time and trace these to ideas that are approaching today. These past inventions have given man an incredible imaginative mind that is leading to inventions that just seem too crazy to believe. These earlier inventions started with Harold Graham’s using of “Rocket Belt” that was reported flying him for 112 feet. A company, Jetpack International, is said to have made three different jet pack models that each weigh about 180 pounds. One of the models is reported allowing pilots to fly up to 11 miles while the other two models have yet to be tested by human, but are only expected to allow flight for not even a minute. The two models are made to run on hydrogen peroxide. The disadvantage with this is that it requires much more energy to work, explaining as to why the less than one-minute success is proposed. These models are used for demos only.

I found this article very interesting because this is such a far-fetched idea to me. From not even having cars hundreds of years ago, to having cars running on electricity, to the thought of getting around by jet packs. Crazy! This idea is actually one that sounds as if it could be used at some point with more research and testing for people that need to only go a couple of miles down the road. I’m sure it would be much more convenient (and fun) to throw on a jet pack and fly a mile down the road rather than get in the car and use gas for such a short trip. This obviously could come with problems. With the jetpacks only being seen working a couple of hundred feet in the air, people could get hurt due to “air traffic” and other natural obstacles that could be in the way. This would also take a lot of time to get to work due to the need of teaching people appropriate and safe (if that’s possible) ways of using such a mode of “transportation.” It would be great though to have a way to decrease, even if only a small amount, of the amount of oil that we use each day and could possibly help increase pollution that is created using cars. It could decrease all of that since people often take trips a mile or two down the road that adds up to such things. (Of course, I am honestly not totally certain of what kind of pollution could come from the jetpacks.) I really doubt that such a thought will ever become a reality and normal use, but I think it is a cool thought and could lead to an invention along the same lines that could become a large success.
